Family studies

The course takes 3 years (6 semester) to end with a Bachelor’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.

The purpose is to prepare specialists able to work in different modes for married couples and families, whereby school subject teaching of “Introduction to family life/Introduction to sexual life” and parish counseling are the prevailing options.

The curriculum of these studies focuses on family life problems interpreted philosophically and anthropologically, but also with a due consideration of psychological, educational, legal, sociological, and theological aspects.

A diploma in this specialty entitles to apply for employment in educational/rearing institutions, family counseling centres, parish family counseling, caretaking/rehabilitation institutions, social service offices, social aid centres, healthcare and judiciary institutions (with M.A. diplomas), local government offices, social prevention institutions, and primary or junior schools as teachers of “Introduction to family life”.

-       It provides for mediation and supervision skills.

-       It makes acquainted with the methodology of “Introduction to family life”.

-       It prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and post-graduate studies.

-       It prepares for employment in different institutions of social prevention

The students can join scientific circles in which they have opportunities to add to their knowledge, make new acquaintances, and become involved in the University’s life.

 Those interested in sports are welcome to join the Academic Sports Association, an organization of long standing, with excellent achievements in many sports disciplines.

There is also a student’s parliament. This invites each student to take part in to take an active part in a variety of campaigns and travels.

A new and perfectly equipped computer room for the students will be available in the University’s new building since the academic year 2013/2014.

The university is also supportive towards disabled students. They can take advantage of whatever could facilitate their knowledge acquisition and amenities to help them get around within the premises.

The Mediator/Supervisor studies are aimed primarily at a good preparation for family and educational mediation, supervision positions, and the teaching of “Introduction to family life”. Further options are positions in social aid, educational as well as caretaking/rearing institutions.

Due to curriculum alterations and an agreement with the Polish Mediation Centre, the graduates will be able to apply for the Polish Mediation Centre certificates, referring to family and educational mediation as well as to juvenile judiciary mediation (this is an option for graduates of stationary studies only). The certificates entitles to take up mediation positions. But the certification is external, i.e. carried out by the Polish Mediation Centre. The conditions to be complied with are credits for adequate curriculum subjects and, additionally (in excess of the studies), a positive result of the P.M.C. Commission examination.

The purpose is to prepare specialists able to work in different modes for married couples and families, with a special attention to social work based on a broad knowledge and skills useful in family counseling, interpreted here as diagnosis and complex help to married couples and families whenever typical problems or dysfunctions can be observed.

These studies also prepare teachers of the subject “Introduction to family life”.

A diploma in this specialty entitles to apply for employment in social aid, educational or caretaking/rearing institutions; in educational/rearing institutions, family counseling centres or parish counseling; in social service offices, social aid centres; in caretaking/rehabilitation and healthcare institutions; in local government offices and social prevention institutions; as well as in primary and junior schools (teaching “Introduction to family life”).

-       It teaches how to diagnose family problems and to help families in different specialized manners.

-       It prepares for second-cycle (Master’s) and post-graduate studies.

-       It is a good preparation for teaching the subject “Introduction to family life” and/or social aid employment.

The ‘Family Caretaking and Counseling’ studies are primarily intended to prepare specialists for the role of family counsellor and carer  (including care of the disabled and infirm on behalf of social aid institutions as well as at the homes of those in need), and that of teacher of “Introduction to family life”.

The graduates can apply for employment in social aid, educational, and caretaking/rearing institutions.

The Family Counselling Centre ‘Haven’ has been founded under the auspices of the University’s

staff, students, and graduates. This is where our students will also be able to do their occupational training, and volunteers will have an additional opportunity for self-development improving their skills in family counselling through courses and workshops.
