European Studies
The course takes 2 years (4 semesters) to end with a Master’s degree after a final examination, which includes a discussion of the dissertation presented.
The purpose of this speciality is to impart a broad practical knowledge of the social, political, and economical aspects of EU’s functioning.
The speciality prepares for employment in EU’s public and private sectors as well as in national or local-government administration.
It also prepares for third-cycle (Ph.D.) and other postgraduate studies.
- It provides for skills which can facilitate an analysis of social and political processes
in a global, regional, national or local perspective, and for an economical and legal
knowledge that results in a better understanding of a present-day society
(especially of its functioning rules).
- It guarantees a good preparation for third-cycle (Ph.D.) and other postgraduate studies.
- The preparation for jobs in the public and sectors of the EU as well as for employment in
national or local-government administration is very good indeed.
Ateneum has a Career Bureau, which facilitates the finding of institutions or enterprises willing to welcome trainees or to offer preliminary and stable employment. Co-operating with the Academic Incubators of Entrepreneurship, the Bureau also organizes vocational schooling and workshops aimed at an easy inclusion in the job market. A new and perfectly equipped computer room for the students will be available in the University’s new building since the academic year 2013/2014.
The students can join scientific circles in which they have opportunities to add to their knowledge, make new acquaintances, and become involved in the University’s life.
Those interested in sports are welcome to join the Academic Sports Association, an organization of long standing, with excellent achievements in many types of sporting.
Handicapped students of Ateneum can take advantage of whatever may facilitate their knowledge acquisition and displacement within the premises.
Each graduate of European studies becomes a M.A. The title is a confirmation of his or her broad knowledge, which includes the theory of administration and management, the European regional policy standards for economy, the need identification techniques, and the decision-making procedures. Each graduate acquires practical skills, which are useful for EU functioning and facilitate an adoption to the Union’s economy, law, and aid programmes. Due to this specialization, the graduates can work within the national public and private sectors that co-operate throughout the Union. Jobs in the public administration (i.e. in national and local-government organs) are also up to the graduates’ qualifications. The graduates can also choose third-cycle (doctorate) studies or take advantage of other postgraduate continuation options.
