Scientific Circles
This interdepartmental circle aims at informing on, and contributing to, proper attitudes towards the man-nature relation, with a special interest in the fauna. The many dimensions or aspects of the relation are taken into account, whereby ecology is as important as one’s moral motivations and personality seem to be. The students of Ateneum, which is a humanistic university, are expected to seek knowledge of the scientific and educational involvement demonstrated by the Zoological Garden. Moreover they should develop, in themselves and others, a responsibility for, and a sensitivity to, the fate of the animals present in man’s life.
According to the circle’s curriculum, its aims are as follows:
- To point out the importance of proper children’s and teenagers’ attitude to the many fauna species (which calls for an adequate educational influence), and of defining the fauna’s role in present-day life (this applies both to individuals and families);
- To initiate prospective journalists’ media features touching upon the Zoo’s functioning and the situation of animals under and without human care;
- To write seminar and diploma dissertations on the up-to-date animal protection and care.
Pro voce animalium (in Latin: for animals’ voice) is a circle made up by dynamic young people, who want to develop, in others, proper attitudes to the surrounding nature (in a broad interpretation of the term). The members take part in many a course or scientific conference all over Poland, carry out information campaigns focused on specific issues, and co-operate with a number of similar Tricity organizations, including the DOGTOR Foundation, animal shelters and the Zoological Garden in Oliva. There is also a co-operation with other scientific circles, for instance, with Bydgoszcz University’s Naturalist Circle. Pro voce animalium is perfectly integrated which ensures a real natural understanding. A permanent development of the circle can be observed. An extremely popular recent project is “Adoption of Animals”.

The group was initiated by students of journalism and social communication. It is intended as a students’ platform enabling each of them to present his or her first effect of journalistic work. The pryzmatstudencki.pl site presents articles, reviews or columns as well as a photo gallery, subcasts, and video material. The group’s profile is vast indeed. Each student can have his or her “Pryzmat” text assessed by other Internet users. This option motivates the young journalist to be really active and make progress. The editorial staff members are willing to accept new people. Such new students in the group can demonstrate their creative skills at the very beginning.
