Apprenticeships
Each Ateneum student, whether stationary or extra-mural, is obliged to take an external training in an institution of his or her choice. The training should follow either the 3rd semester (which applies to B. A. studies) or the 2nd semester (in the case of M. A. studies) and be taken before the end of the studying cycle.
The obligatory training times are as follows:
‒ For journalism and social communication (whichever speciality has been chosen) – 180 hours;
‒ For European studies (whichever speciality has been chosen) – 180 hours;
‒ For educational studies, as a rule – 180 hours;
However, there are exceptions to this rule, i.e. 210 hours for early education with either speech therapy or the teaching of English and 160 hours in family support institutions combined with 180 hours at schools in the case of family studies.
The standard time for philologies (whichever speciality has been chosen) is 180 hours. No less is expected from second-cycle (M. A.) students with educational specialities.
TRAINING AIMS:
‒ A confrontation of students’ theoretical knowledge and experience with such dispositions which can prove useful in their independent work;
‒ An insight into the activity and characteristics of the hosting institutions;
‒ Acquisition of the practical skills necessary for the future job.
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES:
Students’ training issues are dealt with by the Department of Occupational Training and Promotion. This hands out:
- A formal order;
- A training manual;
- An evaluation sheet to be filled by the training supervisor in the hosting institution;
- A training agreement form, if no such document exists but the institution has agreed to host the student.
This University excludes any covering of training costs by the students. Though, if a student wants to be hosted by an institution offering training cycles which are paid for, he or she has to cover the cost. In such a case the supervisor is obliged to fill additional documents (an order contract and a Social Insurance Institution form).
The Rector’s plenipotentiary for external training is entitled to exempt from it anybody having / having had a speciality – related job (also abroad), that takes up / has taken up at least the time specified above. An exemption can, furthermore, be agreed to in the case of an earlier similar training within the time limit required. Such decisions are based on students’ applications with either the employment certified or the training confirmed in the student’ s book.
ORGANIZATION, PROGRESS, AND CONTROL OF EXTERNAL TRAINING CYCLES:
On the starting day, each student should appear before the manager of the hosting institution, who schedules the training and appoints a supervisor. This person is the student’s partner in a detailed planning of the training.
A “training diary” can be made by the student, if such a necessity results from the organization and progress of the training. Its first week is taken up by an introduction and the student’s becoming an assistant. He or she should grasp the structure of the institution, its statutory aims and features as well as the recording procedures. This introduction is followed by inspection–like assistant tasks. In the subsequent weeks, an independent work and an active participation in the standard functioning of the institution are expected.
The managers and supervisors on behalf of the hosting institutions have to guarantee a training progress in compliance with the agreement.
The Department of Occupational Training facilitates the choice of hosting institutions, which can , if it becomes necessary, take advantage of the Department’s organizational and methodological support.
CREDITING OF TRAINING CYCLES :
To have his or her training credited, each student should submit to the Rector’s plenipotentiary for occupational training and promotion (at the proper department) an evaluation sheet filled and signed by the supervisor and manager of the hosting institution. The evaluation sheet enables the plenipotentiary to register the credit in the student’s book.
